Six Tritons Highlight WWPA All-Academic Team

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Six members of the UC San Diego men’s water polo team have been named to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team. The announcement was made Thursday by the conference.

A total of 97 student-athletes from the WWPA were honored for having a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or higher while playing in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests during the fall of 2012.

Honorees from UCSD included:
Chris Barton (Sr., Cognitive Science, Sixth College)
Lance Curtiss (Sr., Mechanical Engineering, Roosevelt College)
Brian Donohoe (Sr., History, Muir College)
Tommy Friedrich (Sr., International Business, School of International Relations and Pacific Studies)
Danny Lorch (So., Communications, Sixth College)
Josh Stiling (Jr., Chemical Engineering, Warren College)

Donohoe is a four-time WWPA All-Academic Team honoree. Stiling, the Division II Co-Player of the Year and WWPA Player of the Year, has been named all-academic three times, while Barton, Curtiss and Lorch are all second-time honorees.

The Tritons concluded their 2012 campaign with a 16-8 record and advanced to the WWPA championship game.
