LOS ANGELES - UC San Diego women’s water polo head coach Brad Kreutzkamp was named the 2013 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Coach of the Year after leading the Tritons to the WWPA title and a trip to the upcoming NCAA Championships. The league made the announcement Thursday morning.
In his fourth season at UCSD, Kreutzkamp led the Tritons to one of their best seasons in school history at 25-13 overall and as high as No. 12 in the national poll.
The team’s schedule featured 21 games against nationally-ranked NCAA Division I programs. UCSD was featured in the CWPA Top 20 poll all 16 weeks, beginning at No. 20 and now sitting at No. 12.
Kreutzkamp guided four Tritons to All-WWPA honors this season, including Player of the Year and first team performer Sarah Lizotte. Four individuals also received WWPA All-Tournament recognition, including MVP Melissa Bartow.
The Tritons conclude the 2013 campaign as the fifth seed at the NCAA Championships in Boston. UCSD will face fourth seed Hawaii in the first round of play on Friday, May 10 at 4 p.m. (PT).
