Layne Beaubien
Volunteer Assistant Coach

Layne Beaubien is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the UC San Diego men's water polo program in 2013.

Beaubien has excelled in his playing days as a center defender and three-time Olympian. He earned a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Games after Team USA fell to Hungary in the gold medal game. Beaubien scored twice in the Americans' tournament debut, an 8-4 win over host China, and added a pair of goals in a 10-5 semifinal win over Serbia and the 14-10 defeat to Hungary.

Beaubien also competed at the 2004 Athens (seventh place) and 2012 London Olympics (eighth). He was part of gold-medal-winning U.S. squads at the 2003 and 2007 Pan American Games.

A San Diego native and graduate of Coronado High School, Beaubien went on to become a two-time All-American (1997-98) at Stanford University. He garnered Co-Most Valuable Player distinction in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation en route to leading the Cardinal to a conference title and runner-up showing at the NCAA Championship in 1998.
