LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women’s basketball program has signed four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

Abby Conklin, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward from San Juan Capistrano; Noam Leead, a 5-foot-10 point guard from Agoura Hills; GiGi Olelewe, a 6-foot-0 forward from Agoura; and Paige Song, a 5-foot-9 guard/forward from San Jose, will commence their Triton careers as true freshmen during the 2014-15 season. Leead and Olelewe are teammates at Agoura High School.

“We are very excited to add such talented players to our team,” said UCSD head coach Heidi VanDerveer. “Collectively, this class increases our competitive depth, while helping us prepare to challenge for CCAA (California Collegiate Athletics Association) championships and deep runs into the NCAA tournament. Off the court, Abby, Noam, GiGi and Paige are exceptional people whose characters contribute to the positive team culture that is the hallmark of our program.”

Conklin will join the Tritons having averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game as a junior at San Juan Hills High School.

"I chose UC San Diego because I was impressed with the high academic standards and the commitment to quality athletics,” said Conklin. “I think UCSD will exceed my expectations for a rewarding college experience."

Leead, as a junior, led the Chargers to their first CIF Southern Section title, earning First-Team All-CIF Division 3AAA honors. She averaged 13 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. Leead garnered the school’s Outstanding Athletic Achievement and Principal Scholar-Athlete awards, and was an All-Marmonte League Second Team pick in 2012.

"With an amazing, high-level program comprised of dedicated coaches and a fantastic group of girls, it hits all the marks," offered Leead. "I chose UCSD because it's the perfect place to excel as a student-athlete. It's just a great place to be, on and off the court and academically. It provides for a lot of opportunity. I can't wait to represent UCSD on the court next season as a Triton!"

Olelewe helped Agoura High School to the CIF Southern Section title, averaging eight points and six rebounds per game as a junior. She and Leead have helped the Chargers get out to a solid 3-1 start this season and both were named to the Valencia High-Five Classic All-Tournament Team this past Saturday.

"I chose UC San Diego because it has a great basketball program and a great medical program," said Olelewe.

As a junior at Lynbrook High School, Song was named to the All-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) De Anza Division First Team, along with current Triton freshman Hannah Johnson, then a senior at Saratoga High School. Song helped lead the Vikings to the SCVAL De Anza Division co-championship. She averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game over the 2012-13 season.

"I chose UCSD for it's rich academics, beautiful campus, pleasant weather, stellar reputation, competitive basketball program and supportive coaching staff," remarked Song.

UCSD, which is 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA, will host league opponent Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday, Dec. 22 (2 p.m.).
