RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Junior Kelsi Maday from the University of California San Diego softball team was named to the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Softball All-West Region Second Team. The selections were announced on Monday.
Maday was one of 15 selections named to the second team. Chico State's Haley Gilham and Central Washington's Kailyn Campbell were named the West Region Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively.
The Napa product started all 52 games in the outfield for UC San Diego with a .395 batting average, 13 doubles and 42 stolen bases. Maday's five sacrifice flies led the California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA) and were tied for the 12th most in the nation. Her 44 runs, 37 RBI and .468 on base percentage paced the UCSD roster.
Maday's 0.81 stolen bases per game average ranked her eighth in the nation. She became the Tritons' all-time single season and career leader in steals with 42 for the season and 94 in her three years at UCSD. She currently has 16 career home runs, good for fifth most all-time.
This marks the second CCA All-West Region honor for Maday after earning first team distinctions last season. She was also recognized as an NFCA All-West Region honoree and an All-CCAA First Team selection earlier this month.
The Tritons ended their 2017 campaign 30-22 overall and 21-19 in conference play.
Division II sports information directors at schools that sponsor softball select the 2017 CCA All-Region teams.
