CARSON, Calif. - The University of California San Diego women's volleyball team was swept by Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night at the Torodome in Los Angeles County. Scores of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match went 25-18, 25-16, and 25-21.

With its third-consecutive loss, UC San Diego fell to 16-8 overall and 10-6 in CCAA contests. CSUDH improved to 13-12 and 9-7.

UCSD posted a .135 (36-19-126) attack percentage with Cal State Dominguez Hills holding a hefty advantage at .258 (41-9-124). The Tritons had just three team blocks, their second-lowest total of the season. They also lost the side out battle, 49 percent to the Toros' 65 percent.

"Unfortunately, this late in the season we're trying to find our chemistry again," said UCSD head coach Ricci Luyties. "With setter Marie Paris out, we're looking for our rhythm offensively and trying to get quality attacks to score points. We had a lot of opportunites early to put the pressure on, but we couldn't convert those chances."

Senior Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) produced a match-high 14 kills for the Tritons while also contributing five digs, two blocks, an assist, and a service ace. Classmate Rebecca Seaberry had seven kills and a lone error in 15 attacks for a .400 hitting percentage, while sophomore Emily Kimball (Encinitas/San Dieguito Academy) hit .500 with four kills and no errors in eight swings. Sophomore libero Alyson Penrose led all players defensively with 26 digs.

The Toros were led offensively by Tati Yandall's 13 kills. Cathryn Lopez had 17 digs.

Cal State Dominguez Hills got out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and never trailed. Both teams hit under .100 in the opening frame.

It was much of the same in the second set as the Toros were in front most of the way except for a 1-1 tie.

The third set saw four ties and three lead changes. With the Tritons ahead 5-4, the Toros scored 10 unanswered points and remained in front the rest of the way. At 24-17, UC San Diego turned aside four match points, but 24-21 was as close as it would get. In the final set, CSUDH hit an impressive .455 (15-0-33), while UCSD hit .275 (16-5-40), its highest of the night.

It was just the fourth loss for the Tritons in 56 meetings with the Toros. UCSD swept CSUDH on Oct. 10 in La Jolla.

UC San Diego concludes its regular season Saturday evening (7 p.m.) at Cal State LA. The Tritons have already earned a berth in the CCAA Tournament, which will be held Nov. 16-18 at San Francisco State.
