Gabrielle Avila, Esther Nofodji Highlight Day 1 of Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - University of California San Diego freshman Gabrielle Avila finished eighth overall in the women's open pole vault, while junior Esther Nofodji took ninth in the open discus on Day 1 of the 2018 Triton Invitational on Friday afternoon at Triton Track & Field Stadium.

Avila cleared 10'11.75" in the pole vault and Nofodji had a toss of 150'3" in the discus on her third of four attempts. It marked another NCAA provisional qualifier for the San Diego product (Hoover HS), but not her season best. In addition, UC San Diego senior Carly Heffernan tied for 10th in the open pole vault (10'11.75") and freshman Sahana Tadepalli placed 36th in the women's invitational hammer throw (108'1").

Day 2 of the Triton Invitational begins on Saturday morning with the men's hammer invitational starting at 9:30 a.m. Action on the track gets underway at 11:10 a.m. with the 4x100-meter relays. Parking is free all day on North Campus.
