BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - The University of California San Diego women's water polo program earned the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team Award, while the Tritons had a total of 12 student-athletes receive All-Academic accolades, the association recently announced.
The individual awards are broken up into three categories based on grade-point average: Outstanding (4.0-3.71), Superior (3.7-3.41) and Excellent (3.4-3.2), while teams were recognized for recording GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
UC San Diego had a team GPA of 3.26, with seven Tritons making the Superior list and five landing on the Excellent list.
Superior list honorees include junior Halley Atkinson, freshman Sydney Boland, freshman Bennett Bugelli, senior Kayla Fedler, freshman Grace Pevehouse, sophomore Jessee Ransone and junior Maddy Wieseler.
UC San Diego is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, finishing with a 24-12 overall record and winning 11 games against ranked opponents. The Tritons won the WWPA Tournament championship for the sixth consecutive season, made an appearance in the NCAA Championship Opening Round, and head coach Brad Kreutzkamp received WWPA Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
