OAKLAND —University of California San Diego sophomore Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt has been named Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
It is his first-career player of the week honor and the Tritons’ first this season.
Turnbow-Lindenstadt recorded a total of eight goals and four assists over the weekend, leading UC San Diego (5-1) to victories over two top-10 opponents at the GCC vs. WWPA Challenge Cup.
The Newport Beach native scored three goals with two assists and two steals in a 9-4 win against No. 10-ranked UC Irvine, helping the Tritons avenge an overtime loss just one week earlier. He followed it up by matching his season high with five goals and two assists in a 14-11 victory over No. 8 Pepperdine.
Last year’s WWPA Freshman of the Year and All-WWPA Second-Team selection, Turnbow-Lindenstadt is off to a hot start in 2018. The sophomore utility has already tallied 23 goals, 12 assists and eight steals this season.
No. 11 UC San Diego is on the road for two contests this week, as the Tritons take on Cal Lutheran today at 2 p.m. before facing No. 7 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Sept. 13, beginning at noon.
