Tritons Perform Well at Conference Cross-Over

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The University of California San Diego cross country teams put together solid showings on Saturday morning at the Conference Cross-Over hosted by Lewis University.

The UC San Diego men recorded a sixth-place team finish out of 27 schools in the 8K race, with the women earning 14th place out of 28 teams in the 6K.

Both teams entered the weekend ranked in the West Region, as the men stand at No. 8 and the women currently at No. 10.

Men’s Recap

UC San Diego’s 201 points helped them finish ahead of nationally ranked opponents Walsh (233), Western Oregon (249) and Southern Indiana (258).

Junior Tim Corvese led all Tritons on Saturday, placing 22nd overall with a time of 25-minutes, 22.1-seconds. It’s the first time this season Corvese has led the pack.

Freshman Brett Beattie finished 35th after crossing the finish line in 25:36.5, while sophomore Elijah Horwitz was right behind placing 36th at 25:39.2.

In addition, sophomore Jake Selstad was 46th (25:47.7), freshman Noah Monroy was 62nd (25:58.8) and junior Burak Tufekci finished 102nd (26:33.3) out of 286 total runners.

Women’s Recap

UC San Diego finished in the middle of the pack with 367 points. Freshman McKenna Lewis placed first among Tritons for the third time in four meets this season, taking 51st overall out of 272 total runners with a time of 23:16.

Junior Camille Perkins was a close second for UC San Diego with a 58th-place finish at 23:20.6 and freshman Tess Rounds earned 72nd place after crossing the finish line in 23:36.8.

In addition, freshman Zoie Valencia (90th/23:56.2) and sophomore Kendra Corey (96th/24:02.4) also recorded top-100 finishes.

After having next weekend off, UC San Diego returns to action when it hosts the 26th annual Triton Classic in La Jolla, Calif., on Oct. 20.
