Katie McGann was named UCSD's Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services in 2010 after serving as the department's Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services since the 2007-08 academic year.
McGann leads all aspects of institutional compliance with NCAA, conference and university rules. Her key responsibilities include oversight for rules education, monitoring, interpretations, waivers, and investigations. On the academic side, she directs the eligibility certification process for the department's 23 sports teams while also providing NCAA eligibility advising to its student-athletes. McGann represents the department as the primary liaison with the Faculty Athletics Representative, Admissions, the Registrar's Office and the university's academic advising offices.
In addition, McGann oversees the department's student-athlete services and development initiatives. This includes its leadership course and capstone development programs.
McGann is a member of the department's leadership team and is the sport supervisor for the men's and women's fencing and men's and women's tennis programs.
McGann served on the NCAA Division II Academic Requirements Committee from 2011-15, heading the group as chair in 2014-15. She is a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) where she held a position on its Board of Directors and chaired the Division II Committee from 2011-13. McGann is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports and a 2010 graduate from the organization's Institute for Administrative Advancement.
She has served on various institutional committees and is a former member of the Division II Men's Tennis Regional Ranking Committee.
In May of 2017, McGann won a NAAC Excellence Award, bestowed upon a compliance professional who is a leader in the field at the Division II level.
In April of 2014, McGann was the recipient of NACWAA's Judith M. Sweet Commitment Award. The honor is given to an athletics administrator below the senior-ranking level who is committed to providing high-level leadership and guidance within intercollegiate athletics.
Prior to coming to UC San Diego, McGann worked for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
McGann graduated Summa Cum Laude from UC San Diego in 2005 and was a four-year letter winner and team captain in basketball. She was also an active member of Triton Athletes Council as a student-athlete.
