The UC San Diego fencing team is looking to great success and a bright future as Heidi Runyan enters her sixth season at the head coaching position for the 2009-10 season. After two years as an UCSD assistant coach, she brings over 26 years of fencing experience and several years of USFA coaching to the team. Her goals are to continue the Triton's formidable performance in the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California along with producing strong results at the NCAA regional and national levels.

During her competitive career, Heidi was a nationally ranked senior fencer in both women's sabre and foil.

She fenced in college at Cal State Los Angeles - where she met her husband and future assistant, Josh - and she also represented the United States in 2007 World Veterans' Fencing Championships.
