HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's cross country team finished fourth out of 17 teams while the men finished 5th out of 12 teams at the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday morning contested at the Central Park course in Huntington Beach, Calif. Senior Mimi Hodgins (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) was the second overall finisher on the day on the women's side while Carl Lostrom led the UCSD men, finishing 10th overall.
Hodgins' time of 18:26.9 was nearly 12 seconds faster than the third place finisher from UC Irvine. Sophomore Diane Dunn (Martinez, Calif./College Park HS) was the next highest UCSD finisher, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:07.7, good enough for 20th place. She was followed by Emily McGregor (So., Walnut Creek, Calif./Monte Vista HS) in 22nd place, Katie Olson (So., Ann Arbor, Mich./Green Hills HS) in 25th place and Amanda Burkhardt (So., Cameron Park, Calif./Ponderosa HS) who rounded out the Tritons' scoring in 29th place.
On the men's side, Lostrom finished in a time of 23:11.9, 14 seconds ahead of the next fastest UCSD finisher, fellow senior Luke Sigmon (San Leandro, Calif./San Leandro HS), who finished 18th. Chris Beetley-Hagler (Sr., Davis, Calif./Davis HS) and Daniel Holligan (Jr., Nonthaburi, Thailand/Int'l School of Bangkok) finished 29th and 30th, respectively, while Evan Tamura rounded out the UCSD scoring with his 42nd place finish.
Both the men and women return to action on Saturday, October 1 at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University in Bethleham, Pa. The following week, on October 8, UCSD will hosted the annual Triton Classic on the Triton Par Course on the UCSD campus.
