BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The UC San Diego men's and women's cross country teams had a good showing at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by LehighUniversity in Bethlehem, Pa. The women finished 11th out of 47 predominantly NCAA Division I schools while the men finished 24th out of 44 teams.
Mimi Hodgins paced the Tritons for the third time in as many races, finishing 17th overall out of 309 individuals with her time of 21:08.2 in the 6k race. Emily McGregor was next on the team with her time of 21:59.2, finishing 69th while Erin O'Donnell finished 78th with her time of 22:03.6.
Katie Olson and Nina Miller rounded out the top-5 UCSD women’s finishers, crossing the finish line in 89th and 90th places, respectively. Olson’s time of 22:10.3 was only four-tenths of a second faster than Miller.
Diane Dunn and Amanda Burkhardt also raced for the Tritons, finishing with times of 22:31.0 and 22:50.6, respectively. The duo finished in 125th and 152nd places overall.
On the men’s side, Carl Lostrom was the top UCSD finisher on the day, ending the 8k race in a time of 24:48. and finishing 49th overall out of 299 individuals. Luke Sigmon and Matt Noble were the next two highest Triton competitors, finishing 122nd and 146th overall. They crossed the finish line in times of 25:32 and 25:40.
Dan Holligan was the next to cross the line for head coach Ted Van Arsdale’s squad, finishing 163rd with his time of 25:52. Chris Beetley-Hagler rounded out the UCSD scoring with his 180th place finish in a time of 26:00.
Jake Levieux and Evan Tamura also competed in the Invite, finishing 204th and 216th individually. Levieux finished in a time of 26:12 while Tamura was only five seconds behind.
Both squads return home for next weekend’s UC San Diego Triton Cross Country Classic. The event on Saturday, October 8 will begin with the women’s 6k race at followed by the men’s 8k race at . Both events will take place on the Triton Par Course on the UCSD campus.
