Camille Gaito - Softball
Gaito got the ball in UCSD's season opener on Friday and didn't disappoint, tossing a complete game shutout to lead the Tritons to a 2-0 triumph over Central Washington on the first day of the Best of the West Invitational in Turlock. The sophomore hurler allowed just three hits while striking out six and walking none on the way to her third career shutout. The San Rafael native led UCSD with an ERA of 1.86 in 2009.

Daniel Simmons - Baseball Simmons was strong on the hill for the Tritons as well, earning the victory in UCSD's 6-1 win over No. 18 Western Oregon on Sunday. The junior right-hander allowed just one unearned run in seven complete innings against the Wolves, while fanning eight and walking one. He retired 24 of the 27 batters he faced, helping the third-ranked Tritons improve to 4-1. Simmons also tossed 2.2 innings of relief in UCSD's 16-4 rout of SDCC on Monday.

Tiffany Hunter - Women's Basketball
Hunter averaged 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds last week, guiding the 10th-ranked Tritons to home victories over Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino. She shot 65% (13-20) from the field in two games and converted 14 of 15 free throws. After tallying 17 points, eight boards, two assists, three blocks, and two steals against the Broncos, she recorded her fifth double-double of the year, finishing with 23 points and 13 rebounds against the Coyotes.

Daniel Perdew - Men's Swimming The
senior All-American did his thing on Saturday, winning multiple events in UCSD's dual meet loss to UC Davis. Perdew posted a victory in the 50 free with a time of 21.16 and also placed first in the 100 yard butterfly after clocking in at 51.29. He then teamed with Todd Langland, Julius Espiritu, and Blake Langland to take the 400 free relay with a winning time of 3:05. The Tritons won seven events on the day and Perdew was part of three of them.

Alex Henley - Women's Swimming
Henley turned in a standout performance in UCSD's sweep of Cal Baptist on Saturday, winning a pair of events to help the Triton women down the Lancers by a convincing 231-66 tally. The sophomore from Houston, Texas won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.88, taking part in the event for just the second time in a four-year span. She also out-distanced the field in the 400 IM, clocking in with a top time of 4:28.49.

Frank Fritsch - Men's Volleyball The
senior opposite hitter came up big against Pepperdine last week, leading the Tritons to the program's first-ever victory over the Waves in a total of 37 meetings. Fritsch finished with a team-high 20 kills on .359 hitting and added four digs and two blocks, as UCSD took care of the Waves in four sets. He had another great performance in a losing effort against USC two nights later, finishing with 16 kills, six digs, and three blocks.

Chelsea Carlisle - Women's Basketball
Carlisle helped the seventh-ranked Tritons keep their perfect record intact last week, averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals in home victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State. For the week, Carlisle shot better than 41% from the field and converted 9-of-10 free throws. She scored seven points in the final 1:59 against the Otters on Thursday, including a big three after CSUMB had pulled within one.

Casey Ryan - Men's Basketball The junior guard turned in an impressive all-around performance against San Francisco State on Saturday, finishing with a season-high 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 39 minutes to help the Tritons hold off the Gators in double overtime. Ryan hit 4-of-6 shots from the field and sank a huge three-pointer with two seconds remaining to tie the game at 76 and force a second OT period. The Tritons went on to record a 91-86 victory.

Jessica Ferguson - Women's Swimming
Ferguson helped lead the Tritons to team victories over Grand Canyon (229-54) and Incarnate Word (220-74) on Sunday, recording an individual win and swimming as part of two triumphant relay teams. The Loomis, Calif. native posted a winning time of 59.50 in the 100 yard butterfly and helped UCSD record first place times of 1:48.89 and 1:37.36 in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, respectively.

Jordan Lawley - Men's Basketball Lawley averaged 24 points, eight rebounds, and four assists last week, helping the Tritons earn a two game split with Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus. He finished with a game-high 22 points, six boards, and three assists in the 77-68 loss to the Wildcats on Thursday and then recorded his first double double of the season on Saturday, scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to guide UCSD past the Warriors, 81-72

Annette Ilg - Women's Basketball
Ilg
takes home a second consecutive AOW honor after leading UCSD to a 4-0 record last week following home wins over No. 20 Seattle Pacific and Western Washington, as well as a pair of conference victories on the road. The Avon Lake, Ohio native averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals for the week, helping UCSD remain undefeated. She scored a career-high 24 points in the Tritons' double overtime win over SPU.

Julius Espiritu - Men's Swimming The freshman swimmer helped guide UCSD to a clean sweep of Truman State on Saturday, as the Tritons won all 14 events en route to a convincing 228-30 victory. Espiritu won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events, clocking in with times of 53.68 and 1:57.98, respectively. The native of Newark, Calif. also teammed with Juan Pablo Carillo, Dan Perdew, and Todd Langland to win the 200 medlay relay with a first place time of 1:33.35.

Annette Ilg - Women's Basketball
Ilg had a monster week, leading the Tritons to a road win over Cal State East Bay and home victories over Biola University and the University of Alaska during the UCSD Women's Basketball Classic. She averaged 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in three games, helping the Tritons remain perfect on the season. Ilg scored a career-high 23 points on 11-of-19 shooting and matched a personal best with five steals in UCSD's win over CSUEB.

Tyler Acevedo - Men's Basketball Acevedo turned in a stellar performance in UCSD's only game of the week, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists to help the Tritons defeat Cal State East Bay and pick up their first win of the season. The Agoura Hills, Calif. native went 5-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-8 from the three-point line, to lead all scorers in his first career start. The senior guard is now averaging 10.6 points and 3.2 rebounds through five games in 2009-10.

Chelsea Carlisle - Women's Basketball
Carlisle led UCSD to a pair of road wins to open CCAA play over the weekend, averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. The sophomore point guard had a big performance in the Tritons' victory over the Coyotes, recording team-highs of 15 points and seven boards to help UCSD avenge last season's loss to CSUSB in the first round of the CCAA Tournament.

Jordan Lawley - Men's Basketball UCSD's leading scorer in 2008-09, Lawley has continued to pace the Triton offense this season and averaged a team-high 12.5 points against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona last week. After an off night against the Coyotes, Lawley bounced back against the Broncos, leading all scorers with 20 points on 7-for-17 shooting to go with four rebounds. The Lodi, Calif. native has now scored 20 or more twice in four games this season.

Tiffany Hunter - Women's Basketball
Hunter came up with a tremendous performance in her first game as a Triton, helping UCSD claim a 71-70 victory at Grand Canyon in the team's season-opener on Saturday. A junior transfer from Mira Costa College, Hunter scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and hauled in a game-high eight rebounds as UCSD erased an early 15-point deficit and held off the defending Pacific West Conference Champion Antelopes.

Steven Donohoe - Men's Water Polo Donohoe had a big weekend at the WWPA Championships in Orange, leading the Tritons a second straight appearance in the championship game. The senior All-American scored three goals in UCSD's 14-13 overtime win over Redlands in the opening round on Friday, then led the Tritons with five scores in the 16-3 rout of Whittier in the semifinals on Saturday. Donohoe was also one of four players to score in Sunday's narrow 5-4 loss to LMU in the final.

Sarah McTigue - Women's Soccer
McTigue had a huge performance against Chico State on Saturday, scoring two goals to lead UCSD to a 2-1 comeback victory over the Wildcats in the second round of the 2009 NCAA West Regionals. After Chico State took the lead in the 23rd minute, McTigue struck right back, scoring the equalzier less than two minutes later. She then punched home the game-winner at the 85:17 mark to seal the win and cap off her first career multi-goal game.

Carianne Cunningham - Women's Swimming Cunningham had a big day against UC Santa Barbara in a dual meet on Friday, recording first place times in the both 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events. The senior from San Clemente, Calif. won the 100 with a time of 1:07.76, before clocking in at 2:23.28 in the 200 to post her second victory of the day. Despite Cunningham's performance, the Tritons came up short against the Gauchos, falling by a final tally of 144-112.

Jessica Wi - Women's Soccer
Wi scored UCSD's lone goal in the 2009 CCAA Championship Tournament, punching home the equalizer against Cal State Dominguez Hills in the 53rd minute on Friday in Turlock. After fellow midfielder Shelby Wong's shot was deflected back into the box, Wi came charging in to put it away, tying the match at 1-1. The goal was the freshman from Oakland's fourth of the season and she is now second on the squad with 14 points in 2009.

Steven Donohoe - Men's Water Polo Donohoe scored three goals -- including two in the final 1:09 of the fourth quarter -- to lead No. 11 UCSD to a 14-13 come-from-behind victory over No. 14 Santa Clara in the Tritons' return to Canyonview Pool on Saturday. The senior All-American scored with just over a minute remaining in regulation and then converted a penalty shot with 22 seconds left to help erase a three-goal deficit and send the match into overtime, where the Tritons outscored the Broncos, 1-0.

Sylvia Schmidt - Women's Volleyball
Schmidt led the Tritons to a pair of sweeps over Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State last week, extending UCSD's winning streak to 15 straight. For the week, the senior outside hitter tallied 38 kills on .544 hitting with nine digs and three blocks in just six sets. Against the Warriors on Friday, she finished with 19 kills -- her second highest total of the season -- and then matched that mark the following night against the Wildcats.

Kristin Armstrong - Women's Soccer The
sophomore goalkeeper did her part against No. 16 Cal State L.A. on Friday, recording a career-high 10 saves in the Tritons' 1-0 loss to their CCAA South Division rivals. Armstrong was outstanding against the Golden Eagles but the visitors still managed to break through with the match's only goal in the 88th minute. The Anaheim, Calif. native currently ranks second in the conference with a goals against average of 0.66, while her six shutouts rank fifth.

Bre Schofield - Cross Country
The sophomore All-American paved the way for UCSD's second place finish at the 2009 CCAA Championships in McKinleyville on Saturday, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:13.5 in the women's 6k race. Her time was second only to individual winner Vivien Wadeck of Cal State L.A. One of the premiere runners in the conference, Schofield improved upon her third place finish in 2008 and took home All-CCAA honors for the second year in a row.

David Morton - Men's Water Polo The sophomore goalkeeper had a big weekend between the pipes for UCSD, leading the Tritons to a 2-1 record in three road contests. After making 15 blocks and holding No. 7 UC Irvine to just seven goals on Friday night, Morton made a total of 20 stops in UCSD's wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. He tallied eight blocks in the Tritons' 11-8 triumph at CMS, before denying 12 attmepts in the 10-6 victory over Pomona.

Elaine Chen - Women's Volleyball The
senior setter led UCSD to a pair of wins last week, including a four-set victory over previously undefeated and second-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. Chen was brilliant directing the Triton offense, collecting 73 assists and six kills on .400 hitting in a total of seven sets for the week. She was key in the Tritons' win over CCAA rival CSUSB, tallying four kills, 40 assists, and eight digs. UCSD is now 20-1 overall and 12-1 in the CCAA on the season.

freshman forward came up big for the Tritons when it mattered most, notching the game-winner in the 88th minute to deliver at 2-1 victory at CCAA South Division rival Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday. After missing 10 games with an injury, Newcomer made an immediate impact in her first game back, collecting a pass from Anne Wethe and punching home the deciding score. Her goal helped UCSD win its seventh consecutive match.

Shelby Wong - Women's Soccer The sophomore midfielder had a huge performance Thursday night, registering a hat trick to lead UCSD to a 5-0 rout of regional foe Western Washington at Triton Soccer Field. After punching home the game-winner in the 12th minute, Wong then added another score 34 seconds later to put the Tritons in front 2-0. She put the finishing touches on a brilliant effort with her third goal at the 60:03 mark, completing UCSD's first hat trick since 2005.

Mikel Samaniego - Men's Soccer The transfer from Seattle University had a strong showing at Cal State East Bay on Friday, tallying two goals to lead the Tritons to a 3-2 win over the Pioneers. A junior forward from Seattle, Samaniego got UCSD on the board with his first goal in the 21st minute and then scored what proved to be the deciding goal on a penalty kick at the 82:49 mark. The Tritons also defeated East Bay on Sunday for their third consecutive victory, which tied a season-high.

The Cupertino native also added 10 digs and three blocks as UCSD picked up its sixth and seventh consecutive victories. After racking up 15 kills against the Otters on Friday, Schmidt recorded a match-high 16 kills on .583 hitting against the Gators the next night.

senior driver came up big on Friday as No. 13 UCSD held off 12th-ranked UC Davis 9-7 at the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex. Madsen led the Tritons with a career-high three goals, propelling UCSD to its second win over the Aggies in two weeks. After the Tritons fell behind 3-0, the Westminster native got his team on the board with a score with 2:15 remaining in the first period and then tied the score at 3-3 with his second goal just before the half.

Elena Inouye - Cross Country The sophomore runner had a strong showing at Saturday's University of Southern Indiana Pre-National Invitational, finishing 17th overall individually to lead UCSD's women to a sixth place finish as a team. The Torrance, Calif. native completed the 6k course with a time of 23:28.36, becoming the Tritons' top individual finisher for the first time in her career. Inouye has been among the team's top five in all three races this season.

Kasra Sarabakhsh - Men's Soccer The junior midfielder registered his first career goal as a Triton on Friday, delivering the match's only score in UCSD's 1-0 victory at CCAA South Division rival Cal Poly Pomona. Sarabakhsh came off the bench to punch one past Bronco keeper Thomas Ryan at the 22:19 mark, notching his first goal of 2009 on just his second shot. The San Diego native's goal was the difference as the Tritons picked up their first conference win of the year.

Katie Condon - Women's Volleyball Condon was key in UCSD's two victories last week, helping the fourth-ranked Tritons improve to 12-1 on the season and 4-1 in the CCAA. The sophomore outside hitter helped UCSD pull out a thrilling five-set victory at Cal State L.A. on Friday, setting up a big block assist to tie the decisive set at 14-14 and then sending home the winning kill two points later. She finished with 13 kills and nine digs in the victory and tallied 21 kills and 13 digs for the week.

The senior two-meter defender has scored a total of 21 goals in seven games for the Tritons this season.

Sarah McTigue - Women's Soccer The
sophomore forward was one of four Tritons to find the net in UCSD's 5-1 rout over visiting Dixie State Saturday night, tallying her second goal of the season. After netting the game-winner for the Tritons in the 104th minute of their opener last week, McTigue came up big again against the Red Storm. The Bellflower, Calif. native scored at the 31:15 mark, giving UCSD a commanding 3-0 lead and ultimately, a 2-0-0 mark to start the 2009 campaign.

Shane Micheil - Men's Soccer Micheil had a stellar performance against Notre Dame de Namur on Friday, scoring two late goals to lead UCSD to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory in the opening match of the Seawolf Soccer Classic. The junior midfielder scored the equalizer in the 88th minute to send the match into overtime and then found the net again with 15 seconds remaining in the first OT period to deliver the victory. Micheil earn all-tournament team honors for his heroics.

Roxanne Brunsting - Women's Volleyball The sophomore libero was brilliant over the weekend, leading UCSD to four wins at the Northern Michigan Wildcat Open. Not only did she anchor the Triton defense, but she was a key member of the service game, tallying 18 of the team's 40 aces in four matches. Brunsting set a career mark with seven aces in UCSD's five-set victory over No. 7 Minnesota Duluth and finished with 66 digs on the weekend, helping the Tritons to a 4-0 mark to start the season.

Brian Knight - Cross Country The freshman runner was outstanding in his first collegiate cross country race, finishing second overall with a time of 22:52.7 in Saturday's season opener on the Triton Cross Country Course. Knight paved the way for UCSD's dominant 56-point victory over Point Loma Nazarene and Cerritos College, leading a pack of Triton runners that claimed five of the first six spots in the four-mile run. He finished three seconds behind the top individual finisher.
