WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego senior guard Jordan Lawley was named the Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week for the week ending February 7, it was announced Monday by the league office. Lawley averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists last week, leading the Tritons to a two-game split with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.
Lawley did his part in a 68-58 loss to the Toros on Thursday, scoring a game-high 24 points on an impressive 7-for-10 effort from the field. He hit 3-of-4 attempts from the three-point line and also hauled in a team-high seven boards. The Lodi, Calif. native was even better against the Golden Eagles on Saturday, tallying 29 points on 9-for-18 shooting to go with four rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot. Lawley connected on two triples and went 9-of-11 at the free throw line to guide the Tritons to an 83-77 triumph, their first in six games.
For the week, Lawley shot better than 57% from the field and converted 5-of-11 three-point tries, 45.5%. The CCAA's leading scorer, Lawley has now finished with 10 points or more in 15 consecutive games, reaching the 20-point mark 11 times during that span.
This marks his second player of the week award this season and the second for UCSD overall in 2009-10. Lawley also took home the weekly honor on January 11 after averaging 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists against Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.
The Tritons (5-13, 4-11 CCAA) will travel to Northern California to take on the Warriors and Wildcats this week. UCSD currently sits in 11th place in the conference standings, two games out of the final CCAA Tournament berth.
