LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team is set to begin what will likely be its busiest week of the season, playing five opponents in a span of three days.
The Tritons (0-1), ranked 35th nationally in the Intercollegiate Athletic Association (ITA) preseason Division II poll, will travel to Phoenix to compete in the Grand Canyon University Paseo Tournament that runs from Friday to Sunday as part of President's Day weekend.
Friday's schedule features the Tritons matching up with the host GCU at 9:30 a.m. before a 3:30 p.m. showdown with No. 27 BYU Hawaii. UCSD met the two squads in last year's Phoenix tournament, defeating GCU 8-1 before dropping an 8-1 decision to BYUH the next day.
The Tritons will then move on to two unranked opponents, facing Western New Mexico on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Montana St. Billings at 11 a.m. Sunday. The final match of the tournament for UCSD, starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, will feature No. 25 Midwestern State as an opponent.
Last week, the Tritons lost their season opener 6-3 to Concordia Irvine.
