BONSALL, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team took fifth place out of 12 teams in the Cal State San Marcos Invitational on Tuesday, carding a 304 in the final round at the San Luis Rey Downs Golf Course. The Tritons were in seventh place with a two-round score of 603 at the end of the day on Monday, but had a strong showing in the third round on Tuesday to claim their highest finish of the 2009-10 season.

Freshman Anubhav Rastogi paved the way for the Tritons, carding the team's best round of the tournament with a 70 on Tuesday. He finished with an overall score of 227 and a share of 20th place following rounds of 77 and 80 on Monday.

Junior Keith Okasaki also finished with a final score of 227, carding a 79 on Tuesday after beginning the day with a two-round total of 148. Michael Neustadt was the next-highest finisher for UCSD, finishing one stroke behind Rastogi and Okasaki following a third round 76. Raj Samra rounded out the scoring for the Tritons, shooting a 79 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 230.

Holy Names University, which held a four-stroke lead over Cal Baptist entering the final round, shot a 286 on Tuesday to pull away from the pack and win the team title with a final score of 868. The Hawks finished 15 strokes in front of the Lancers, who posted a final round score of 297 to hold onto second place.

Cal State San Bernardino took third at 892 (293), while the University of Redlands finished fourth with a final tally of 902 (302).

Individual medalist honors went to Cal Baptist's Carl Stjarnfalt, who carded a 71 on Tuesday to wrap up the tournament at 4-under par, 212. Stephen Edman of Holy Names finished second with a final score of 2-under par, 214 (68), while Cal State Dominguez Hills' Ryan Indouina carded a three-round total of 1-under par, 215 (73) to take third.

Head coach Mike Wydra, who is in his 31st season at the helm of the UCSD men's golf program, and the Tritons will now compete in the St. Edwards Invitational February 22-23 in Austin, Texas.
