LA JOLLA, Calif.
- Working with the Neighborhood House Assn. of San Diego, the Triton
Athletes' Council (TAC) helped make the holidays a bit brighter for 15
local families through the group's annual Adopt-a-Family program. More
than 20 student-athletes visited the organization's South San Diego
location Friday afternoon to drop off presents and grocery gift cards
to families in need. The items were purchased with money donated by
UCSD student-athletes, coaches and administration.
The effort was spearheaded by TAC Vice President Lisa Bradley of the
UC San Diego women's soccer team. All 23 Triton teams participated and
most were able to meet directly with the families to which the gifts
were provided. "I thought it was an equally rewarding experience for us
as for the families receiving the presents," Bradley said. "We
appreciate the Neighborhood House Association giving us the opportunity
to bring happiness to these families during the holiday season."
Adopt-a-Family is one of several community service projects
initiated by the Council. The next will be the annual UCSD Athletics
Department Blood Drive, Friday, Jan. 15 in the RIMAC Green Room.
