CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The UC San Diego fencing team now sits in 18th place as the men's competition began during day three of the 2010 National Collegiate Fencing Championships. St. Johns University maintains a slight edge over Penn State heading into the final day of action. The Tritons have a big lead over Boston College and Brown University, currently tied for 19th, and are within striking distance of NYU and Cornell.

Michael Fong scored five victories in the first four rounds of action in men's foil. The sophomore from Santa Clara recorded 38 touches on the day, placing 19th overall. Fong has already eclipsed his win total from the national championships last year, where he finished with three wins and 60 touches.

The NCAA National Championships, hosted by Harvard University, resume tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Gordon Track Center for the final three rounds of the men's competition. The gold medal bouts are then scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with the presentation of individual and team awards wrapping up the four-day event.
