NEW ORLEANS - The UC San Diego cross country program had two student-athletes named to the 2010 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team that was released this week, as Jesse Morrill and Kellen Levy both earned spots on the men's squad.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or greater through the most-recent semester/quarter, completed at least 12 credit hours in the semester/quarter of cross country competition and placed in the top 50 percent at the most recent NCAA National Championships or in the top 30 percent at the NCAA Regional Championships.

The complete men's team features a total of 182 student-athletes from 89 Division II institutions.

The Triton men finished third at the CCAA Championships in Whittier in early November and went on to place eighth out of 22 teams at the NCAA West Regional in Bellingham, Wash. two weeks later. Morrill was UCSD's top individual finisher at the regional meet, placing 26th overall with a time of 33:10.7 on the 10k course. Levy was the fourth Triton to score on the day, finishing 51st with a final time of 33:56.4.
UCSD placed 14th out of 26 teams in the women's competition in Bellingham.

In addition to the individual accolades, UCSD's men's and women's programs were both selected as Division II All-Academic Cross Country Teams for their collective performance in the classroom. The UCSD men posted a team GPA of 3.21, while the women had a 3.25.

To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team status, the team must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher and have compiled a score (finished at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.
