"The All-American selection is geared towards selecting the equivalent of the top Division II Eight and Four in the country, so it's fantastic recognition for our program and for their achievements," said head coach Pattie Pinkerton said.
Burke occupied the fifth seat in UCSD's Varsity Eight boat in 2011, while Dixon-Word occupied the seventh seat throughout the season. Pinkerton recognized the duo as leaders who carried and supported a young team over the course of the year.
"It's really a testimony to the dedication and daily hard work of both athletes. As walk-ons, they have only two years of rowing under their belt, and they have pushed and tested themselves every day to improve physically and technically," said Pinkerton. "They have the courage to keep extending themselves to see what more they can accomplish."
The pair also left a mark in the Triton record books this season. Burke leaves UCSD holding the No. 28 spot in the all-time team Ergometer Ranking, while Dixon-Word has the opportunity to improve on her No. 29 ranking with two more years of eligibility remaining.
