CLEVELAND - The Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) announced the recipients of the 2010-11 Academic Achievement Awards on Wednesday and a total of 64 student-athletes from UC San Diego received the honor.

The DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards program recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. A total of 98 institutions submitted nominees, with a total of 3,676 student-athletes earning the distinction for their efforts in 2010-11.

To qualify for the Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the institution must be a current dues paying member of the DII ADA. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years at their current institution and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the previous academic year.

"Congratulations to all of this year's Academic Achievement Award winners," DII ADA president and director of athletics at Western State College of Colorado Greg Waggoner said. "We want to thank and congratulate those colleges and universities that took part in honoring its student-athletes and look forward to continued participation in the future."

UCSD had honorees from 17 of its 23 sports, with men's track and field leading the way with 10 selections. Women's track and field had nine honorees while men's soccer had seven and women's crew had six. Women's soccer and women's swimming and diving had five recipients apiece.
