LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 2 UC San Diego women's soccer team took down Cal State Monterey Bay 5-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday evening at Triton Soccer Field.

Courtney Capobianco scored twice and added an assist in the win. Lindsay Mills assisted on both of Capobianco's scores while Sarah McTigue, Izzy Pozurama and Shelby Wong contributed goals of their own. UCSD remains undefeated and in first place in the CCAA South with a 6-0-1 conference mark and a 7-0-2 overall record.

UCSD dominated from the outset, firing-off 20 shots compared to three by the Otters. Goalkeeper Kristin Armstrong was forced to make just a single save on the way to the Tritons' seventh shutout of 2011. UCSD has not surrendered a goal since September 16 at San Francisco State.

"You can't really argue when you're winning, we just can't get carried away," said UCSD head coach Brian McManus. "It's a conference game, the same as every week. We just need to keep grinding games out and at the end of the season, see where we are."

This match wasn't the grind McManus made it out to be, as the Tritons registered three goals in the first half. McTigue scored her fifth goal of the season in the 12th minute, toe-poking in Hayley Johnson's service on a corner kick to the front post.

Another Johnson corner kick led to the Tritons' second goal less than five minutes later. Johnson's serve was deflected out to the foot of Cassie Callahan on the right side of the box. Callahan played the ball back to Danielle Dixon, who was standing 40 yards away. Dixon played a long ball to the left side of the six yard box, catching the Otter defensive back line trying to work an offside trap.

Wong, Jessica Wi and Gabi Hernandez stayed onside as Dixon's pass sailed over the Otter defense, allowing Wong to run onto the end of it. Wong took a dribble and pounded a left-footed shot to the far post to make it 2-0.

Capobianco would net her first goal of the season less than three minutes away from halftime. Mills played her a square ball along the right side of the field and Capobianco cut inside while putting the ball on the left side of her body. Capobianco let it fly from the right edge of the box, curling in a left-footed bender upper-V inside the far post.

"[Courtney] is very laid back and quiet, so sometimes she can be her own worst enemy," said McManus. "When she decides to go on and play fired up, she is a great player."

CSUMB was able to create some chances in the early part of the second half, but could not crack the Triton back line. In the 78th minute, Capobianco came away with the ball at midfield after a minor scuffle between the teams for possession. With no one pressuring the ball, Capobianco took a series of dribbles towards the Otter goal before she threaded a pass through the middle of the CSUMB back line. Pozurama ran onto the ball and fired a low shot to the far post to make it 4-0.

Capobianco registered the Tritons' fifth goal 10 seconds from full-time, finishing Mills' cross from the right side one-time from six yards out. Morgan Jong supplied the pass that freed Mills along the right flank.

CSUMB drops to 2-6-0 overall and 1-6-0 in CCAA play.

The Tritons will be back in action at noon on Sunday against Cal State East Bay (3-5-1, 2-4-1) at Triton Soccer Field. CSUEB fell to Cal State San Bernardino 6-2 on Friday evening.
