LA JOLLA, Calif. - The regular season came to an end on a high note Saturday for the No. 15 UC San Diego women's volleyball team as it picked up a solid 3-0 win over league opponent Cal State Monterey Bay at RIMAC Arena. Scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-16.
UCSD ends its regular season with a 21-5 overall record and a 17-5 mark in CCAA play. CSUMB dropped to 9-16 and 6-16.
UC San Diego dominated on the attack, collecting 48 kills to CSUMB's 30. The Tritons hit .231 (48-17-134) and Monterey Bay swung at .102 (30-16-137). The Otters hit under .100 in sets two and three.
The Tritons got 13 kills from Katie Condon and a career-high 11 from Natasha Wilroy. Janessa Werhane had 24 digs. Hillary Williamson finished with 16 digs, putting her over 1,000 for her career.
Rheann Fall posted a match-high 15 kills for the Otters.
The two squads split the regular season series as the Otters took a 3-1 win in Seaside in early October.
It was the final regular season match for seniors Roxanne Brunsting, Condon, Julia Freidenberg, Werhane, Williamson and Wilroy.
The field of 64 for the NCAA Tournament will be announced Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. PT at ncaa.com. The regular season champion from the CCAA (Cal State San Bernardino), GNAC (not clinched) and the Pacific Coast Conference (BYU Hawaii) earn an automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional. The other five squads are determined by West Region rankings. Entering this week, UCSD was ranked second in the West.
