LA JOLLA, Calif. -
The UC San Diego fencing teams took care of business on Saturday, soundly defeating both UC Irvine and Arizona State in a dual competition at RIMAC Arena.
Heading into Saturday's tournament, UCSD held narrow leads in women's foil, men's foil and women's sabre over Arizona State in the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC) standings. With impressive results across the board, the Tritons now hold solid first place position in the conference.
UCSD took on UC Irvine first and made quick work of the Anteaters. The Triton men recorded a 24-3 victory, while the women won by a final margin of 25-2.
It was more of the same against Arizona State as UCSD's men prevailed 21-6 and the women posted a 19-8 win.
Sophomore Luc Ginestet
had a strong performance for the Tritons, posting a final tally of 5-0 in men's epee, which is currently in second place behind ASU. Ginestet's effort helped close the gap for UCSD.
Senior Michael Fong
also had a big day, recording a 4-0 mark in men's foil to help strengthen the Tritons' position in that weapon.
UCSD is back in action next weekend at the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
