No. 17 UCSD Dropped, 8-1, at Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. - The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team was defeated 8-1 at Azusa Pacific, the NAIA's seventh-ranked team, Saturday afternoon at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.

UCSD fell to 0-2 on the season while APU improved to 2-0.

Triton Melissa Breisacher secured the only UCSD win, beating opponent Natalie McNall, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position.

UCSD's Jacquelyn Davis and Tara Vanooteghem took their singles matches to tiebreakers but came out on the losing end. 

"We got out-played in doubles, but really battled in some of the singles matches," said UCSD head coach Liz LaPlante. "Melissa had a great win at No. 1 and we played two tiebreakers at No. 5 and No. 6 that were great matches."

The Tritons return to action Monday, Feb. 6 as they take on Point Loma Nazarene at 2 p.m. at the Northview Tennis Courts.
