GLENDALE, Ariz. - The No. 10 UC San Diego men's tennis team picked up two wins Saturday, defeating BYU-Hawaii by a narrow margin of 5-4 and carryiing the momentum into the evening match, topping Hawaii Hilo, 8-1.

UCSD's victories over BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Hilo improved its record to 5-1.

After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the Tritons dug deep to sweep the bottom four positions on the singles ladder. Austin West, Max Jiganti, Sam Ling, and Kona Luu all conquered their opponents in straight sets.

Sam Ling was the only Triton to earn two wins on the day, teaming up with Junya Yoshida to beat Isaac Hadley and Christiaan Noot at No. 3 doubles, then defeating Hadley in singles at the No. 5 spot.

"It was a great comeback win after going down 2-1 after doubles play," said UCSD head coach Eric Steidlmayer.

UCSD's second match of the day saw a wider winning margin, as the Tritons beat Hawaii Hilo, 8-1.

In singles play, every Triton swept their respective opponent in two sets.

"We brought a great effort the whole day, especially considering it was our fourth match in two days," Steidlmayer said. "I loved the effort and mentality that we displayed."

UCSD will face Sonoma State Sunday at 9 a.m. in its final game in Arizona.
