Tritons Finish 12th After Final Day At San Diego Intercollegiate

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team finished 12th out of 15 teams competing in the 2012 San Diego Intercollegiate after carding a final round 309 on Tuesday at the San Diego Country Club.

The Tritons entered the day tied for eighth place following an opening round 306, but slipped two spots in the team standings with a 314 in Round 2 and wound up 12th despite a better showing in the final round. UCSD finished with a final tally of +65, 929, holding off 13th place Coastal Carolina by one stroke.

Freshman Jay Lim was UCSD's top individual finisher for the second consecutive tournament, posting a final score of +11, 227 on the par-72, 7,033-yard course. Lim, who sandwiched a pair of 76s around a second round 75, finished tied for 32nd place overall.

Fellow rookie Marc Herrmann was the Tritons' next-best finisher, carding rounds of 73, 78 and 79 to wrap up the competition at +14, 230. His score was good enough for a share of 46th place. Sophomore Lewis Simon finished in a tie for 68th place at +23, 239 (79-81-79), while sophomore Jacob Williams came in at +24, 240 (78-80-82) and finished tied for 73rd.

The University of Washington claimed the team title, finishing with an impressive final tally of +6, 870. The Huskies finished seven strokes in front of second place USC, which wrapped up at 877, while UCLA was third at +20, 884.

The University of San Diego's Alex Ching claimed individual medalist honors, carding a three-round total of -2, 214 (74-68-72). He finished one stroke in front of Tennessee's Garrick Porteous, who was second at 215 (73-73-69). Chris Williams and Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington and Steve Lim and Martin Trainer of Southern Cal all finished third with even, 216s.

The Tritons will be back in action in two weeks when they take part in the Coyote Classic Intercollegiate at the Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino.
