LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 19 UC San Diego women's tennis team fell to Hawai'i Pacific, 7-2, in La Jolla Saturday. The Tritons secured one doubles win and one singles victory, but it was not enough to defeat the fifth-ranked Sea Warriors.

Tritons Melissa Breisacher and Jacquelyn Davis defeated their Sea Warrior opponents at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. At No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the UCSD pairs were defeated by matching margins, both losing 8-3.

On the singles side, Triton Samantha Yeung defeated HPU's Lea Kruse-Utermann, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 5 position. At No. 4, Katie Mulloy gained an early lead on Ielyzaveta Rybakova, but ended up falling to the Sea Warrior in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

"It was a great win at No. 1 doubles and Samantha Yeung played well to win at No. 5 singles," said Triton head coach Liz LaPlante. "The team has improved a lot and these tough matches are going to make us better for the rest of the season."

It was the Tritons' second consecutive match against a program ranked in the top five nationally.

UCSD's final match of its six-game home streak is set for Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. versus Connecticut.
