LOS ANGELES -
UC San Diego utility Sarah Lizotte
earned KAP7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week after leading the Tritons to a 2-2 record at the Aztec Invitational, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
Lizotte scored 10 goals over the four matches at the tournament. She had a goal in UCSD's 7-6 upset of No. 11 Indiana and a goal in the Tritons' 7-6 loss to No. 18 Princeton on Saturday.
The sophomore then scored twice in UCSD's loss to No. 14 Hawaii before registering a game-high six goals in the Tritons' 10-8 win over the Bisons of Bucknell in the Invite Finale. The performance was her second six-goal outing of the year and was the fourth time she tallied five or more goals in a single contest.
For Lizotte, it marks the third time in her career she has taken home WWPA Player of the Week honors and her second time this season. Lizotte scored 20 goals over four games on the opening weekend of the season to earn the selection on February 1. She won as a freshman on April 13, 2011 after recording 12 goals, eight assists, six steals and five ejections drawn at Santa Clara University's Bronco Invitational.
The Tritons have a week and a half off before regrouping for March 30 and 31's UCSD Mini Tournament at Canyonview Pool. UCSD (12-11) faces Brown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30. The team then hosts Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, respectively.
