WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego senior sprinter Jacqueline Rose was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 1, the conference announced on Monday.

Rose had a strong performance on the final day of the 2012 Cal/Nevada Collegiate Championships on Sunday, winning the 400-meter dash with a impressive time of 53.30. Her effort was good enough for an NCAA Division II automatic qualifier and set a new school record in the event.

The San Jose native beat out competitors from several Division I schools, including Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, Sacramento State and Long Beach State on the way to the impressive victory.

Rose was also part of two point-scoring relay teams for the Tritons, helping UCSD finish fourth in the 4x100 with a time of 47.52 and third in the 4x400 at 3:43.89. The latter was the second-fastest time in school history in the event.

Rose was voted the female track athlete of the meet for her efforts, becoming the second consecutive Triton to take home the honor.

Monday's award marks Rose's first CCAA Athlete of the Week selection. She was also named the ucsdtritons.com female Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Rose will be back in action this weekend when she joins a select group of Tritons at the 2012 Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
