PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 19 UC San Diego men's tennis team was defeated by 15th-ranked St. Edward's, 5-4, on day two of the White Sands Invitational at the University of West Florida.

UCSD won three of six singles matches but surrendered two wins in doubles. With the defeat, the Tritons fell to 12-8 on the season, while the Hilltoppers improved to 12-6. 

Tritons Max Jiganti and Sam Ling continued their hot streak in doubles, defeating Adrian Garza and Jonathan Stockdale, 8-4, at No. 3. With the victory, the duo has won three consecutive matches at No. 3 and are 4-1 overall this season.

St. Edward's secured the other two doubles matchups at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Austin West and Devon Sousa fell, 8-6, to Edward Boone and Eduardo Bencke at No. 1, and James Rogers and Pedro Bronstrup defeated Kona Luu and Jason Wall at No. 2 by a margin of 8-4.

On the singles side, UCSD dominated the bottom half of the ladder.  Jiganti beat Bronstrup, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, Ling defeated Ryan Wiggins, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, and Luu beat Ivan Vaz, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. With his victory, Jiganti continued his dominance at No. 4 and advanced his season record to 17-3. Chapman Chan fell to Boone, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1, and West put up a fight at No. 3, forcing three sets before losing to Rogers, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Tritons return to action Saturday for the final day of the tournament, facing Barry University at 6 a.m. PST.
