SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 19th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team finished the regular season with a victory on Friday, defeating Point Loma Nazarene, 5-4, at PLNU Tennis Courts. The Tritons secured two doubles wins and split the singles matches to edge the Sea Lions, who are ranked sixth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). 

With the win, UCSD closed out the regular season with a 13-10 record.

At No. 1 on the doubles side, Devon Sousa and Kona Luu narrowly defeated Gregory de Andrade and Angel Tavera, 9-8, in the Triton duo's debut match. Max Jiganti and Sam Ling followed suit, earning the win against Point Loma's Chad Rubin and Michael Zablan, 8-3, at No. 2. Jiganti and Ling are in the midst of a six-match win streak. At No. 3, Sea Lions Kaptan Kaster and KC Ensley notched Point Loma's only win in doubles, defeating Mark Meyer and Trevor Dell, 8-6.

UCSD split the singles games, gaining victories at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6, all in straight sets. Jiganti beat Point Loma's Ensley, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 and at No. 5, Sousa defeated Tavera, 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Guy Giubilato improved his singles season record to 5-2 at No. 6, defeating Kaster, 6-2, 6-3.

"It was nice to get a win after a tough streak," said UCSD head coach Eric Steidlmayer. "We're very happy to finish the year with a win."

The Tritons will find out if they qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships on Apr. 24.
