ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The 21st-ranked UC San Diego women’s tennis team snapped a seven-match losing streak Saturday, defeating No. 43 Sonoma State, 7-2. The Tritons picked up five wins in singles and two on the doubles side for their second victory against Seawolves this season.

With the win, UCSD improved to 7-15 on the season, while the SSU fell to 13-12.

In doubles play, Tritons Melissa Breisacher and Jacquelyn Davis defeated Krista Cole and Megan White, 8-5, at No. 1. At No. 2, Melinda Chu and Tara Vanooteghem fought off three match points to get the tiebreaker win against their opponents, 9-8. Laura Wilke and Samantha Yeung fell in the pair's debut match, 8-6, to Seawolves Lauren Ha and Sheena Johnson at No. 3. 

UCSD dominated in singles, sweeping spots two through six in straight sets. Chu defeated Cole, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2. At No. 3, Vanooteghem earned a dominant victory, handily beating her opponent 6-2, 6-0, and Yeung snapped Stephanie Hoffmire's six-match win streak at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4. Davis beat Johnson at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4. To wrap up the singles ladder, senior Krystal Mizuguchi beat Ha at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.

"We won today in some very hot conditions," said UCSD head coach Liz LaPlante. "Melinda played exceptionally well to beat an opponent she had previously lost to, and Jacquelyn also played great to win her match."

The Tritons will wrap up regular season play Sunday as they face Hawai'i Hilo in Rohnert Park at 11 a.m.
