LOS ANGELES - Three UC San Diego women's water polo standouts were named to the All-Western Water Polo Association Team, it was announced Tuesday morning by the conference.

Sarah Lizotte earned First Team honors while Kirsten Bates and Rachel Brooks were selected to the Second Team and All-Freshman Team, respectively.

Lizotte, a sophomore, is having one of the most prolific offensive seasons in Triton history. Her 84 goals are tied for a school-record and her 193 shot attempts this season are also most in a single season by any UCSD player. She scored eight times in a win over Marist on January 29th and was named WWPA Player of the Week on March 21 after scoring 10 goals over four matches at the Aztec Invitational.

Bates, named to the WWPA Second Team for the third consecutive season, has tallied 44 goals while leading the team with 40 steals and 16 field blocks this year. A senior, she ranks fifth on UCSD's all-time list with 196 goals, fourth with 506 attempts, ninth with 89 assists and fifth with 164 steals. Her 23 career penalties-drawn is third-best all-time in the UCSD history books.

Brooks, in her first season on campus, has logged nine goals, eight assists and 24 steals. She played a key role in UCSD's 4-0 weekend at The Bronco on April 14 & 15, recording totals of six goals, five assists and six steals. Brooks saved her best performance for the finale against CSU Bakersfield, scoring twice while adding two steals and a drawing a team-high two kick-outs in the win that helped UCSD seal the No. 2 seed for this weekend's WWPA Championships.

UCSD will face seventh-seeded Sonoma State in the opening round of the WWPA Championships at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27 at Canyonview Aquatic Center. Fans can click here for a complete schedule and more tournament information.
