THE OPENER
UCSD opens the tournament on Friday afternoon against Sonoma State. The Tritons downed the Seawolves 14-9 on March 2 in Rohnert Park, buoyed by an early 5-1 edge and a hat trick from Kirsten Bates. Katherine Biehle, Jessica Tran, Sarah Lizotte and Natalie Peng each scored twice for the Tritons in the victory. Melissa Bartow tallied four ejections drawn and goalkeeper Allie Taylor made 10 saves in goal. UCSD is 11-1 all-time against SSU. The winner of UCSD-SSU will move on to face the victor of No. 3 CSU Bakersfield and No. 6 Cal State Monterey Bay in the semifinals on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

30 PACK
UC San Diego is 30-6 in WWPA play in the last three seasons in head coach Brad Kreutzkamp's tenure. UCSD went 8-2 this season in conference play and went 12-1 in 2011 on its way to the conference title. The Tritons were 10-3 in conference competition in 2010.

LIZOTTE EARNS HARPER CUP CO-MVP
Sophomore Sarah Lizotte scored four goals in the Tritons' loss to San Diego State last Friday evening in the 11th annual Harper Cup and was named co-MVP of the contest along with SDSU's Amber Pezzolla. The four scores gave her 84 for the season, tying her for the UCSD single-season record with Julie Swail (1995). Lizotte already holds a single-season UCSD record with 201 shot attempts this year.

THREE TRITONS EARN ALL-WWPA HONORS
Lizotte, along with Bates and Rachel Brooks were named to the WWPA All-Conference Team on Tuesday morning. Lizotte was named All-WWPA First Team while Bates garnered All-WWPA Second Team honors for the third consecutive year. Brooks was named to the WWPA All-Freshman squad.

TAYLOR MADE
With 10 saves against SDSU last Friday, Allie Taylor moved into a tie for 10th place all-time with 221 stops on the season. The cage-minder, who will graduate in June, sits in eighth place with 445 saves for her career.

STATE OF THE TEAM
UCSD has won eight of its last 10 contests heading into the WWPA Tournament. The Tritons outscored Fresno Pacific, Brown and Azusa Pacific, 36-15, during March 30-31's UCSD mini-tournament. After a three-goal loss to Cal Baptist on April 6, the Tritons rattled off consecutive victories over Cal State East Bay, CSUMB, Cal State San Bernardino and CSUB at The Bronco, April 14-15. UCSD trailed held SDSU scoreless in the third quarter on April 20 to pull within 6-4, but the Aztecs pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 10-5 victory.

NOTES
UCSD has outscored all opponents 306-276 in 2012 ... Bartow's 84 ejections drawn are fourth-most in single-season program history ... The Tritons beat LMU 13-11 in the 2011 WWPA Championship game ... LMU, UCSD and UC Davis (who is no longer in the WWPA) are the only squads who have taken home the WWPA title in the tournament's 11-year history.
