Tuma Ties Career Appearances Record
Relief pitcher Elias Tuma tossed 1.1 innings against Sonoma State on May 12, the 81st appearance of the senior's career. He is now tied with Ryan Leake (2004-06) for the most outings in program history. In addition, Tuma's 13 career saves rank second on that list, just one behind Keith Noe, who racked up 14 over the 2008 season.
When Garrett Tuck stole second base in the seventh inning of game two vs. Sonoma State on May 12, it gave the Tritons 102 for the year, breaking the school's single season record. The former mark of 101 was set in 1985 and again in 1988. In the day's first game against the Seawolves, UCSD tied the record when Scott Liske swiped third base in the eighth inning.
Susdorf Named Tino Martinez Award Semifinalist
Danny Susdorf has been named a semifinalist for the Tino Award, given to the top Division II player in the nation. The annual honor is named after the former University of Tampa Spartan, United States Olympian, first round draft pick and MLB All-Star, Tino Martinez. Chase Larsson of Cameron won the honor in 2011.
Tuma Tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-District
Reliever Elias Tuma was named a 2012 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII selection for the second straight year. The senior holds a 3.93 GPA as a Cognitive Science major at UCSD's Muir College. Tuma is now eligible to be selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American, an accolade he won in 2011.
Danny Susdorf has nine triples this season, giving the junior 14 for his career. He now owns UCSD's career record for three baggers and is tied for the most triples in a single season in school history. Currently, he leads the nation in total triples and is third in triples per game.
