WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - A total of 86 UC San Diego student-athletes were named to the 2011-12 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic team, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office. In all, 480 athletes from the conference's 12 member institutions earned the distinction.

To qualify for the CCAA All-Academic Award, student-athletes must be a varsity letterwinner who competed in one of 12 CCAA-sponsored sports (men's cross country, women's cross country, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf, men's outdoor track and field, women's outdoor track and field, baseball and softball) during the 2011-12 academic year.

Student-athletes must also maintain a GPA of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of 24 semester/36 quarter units completed at the certifying institution. Non-graded units may be included in the 24/36 unit total.

UCSD had the most All-Academic selections in the conference for the fifth consecutive season, easily surpassing Cal State Monterey Bay's second place total of 48. The remaining 10 institutions had between 43 and 23 student-athletes who made the list.

The Triton women's soccer team led the way with a total of 14 honorees, followed by men's track and field with 11. Men's cross country/track and field, men's soccer and women's track and field each had eight selections.
