Release: Thursday 08/09/2012
LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's soccer team debuts at No. 18 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Poll, it was announced earlier this week.

The Tritons are coming off a 13-3-4 overall record in 2011, finishing atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division standings.

UCSD was ranked in the NSCAA top 10 every week of the regular season, and spent the entire year as the West Region's No. 1 team. The Tritons went on to receive an at-large bid into the 2011 NCAA West Subregionals, dropping a 1-0 decision to Chico State in the NCAA Tournament Second Round to end the season.

The Tritons will return a strong, highly decorated group in 2012, including senior defender Hayley Johnson, a 2011 Daktronics All-America selection. Johnsons' 13 assists last season are tied for third-most in a single season in school history and were tied for seventh-most in the nation in Division II.

Three other CCAA schools are also ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 with Chico State at No. 4, Cal State L.A. No. 13 and Cal State Stanislaus at No.25.

UCSD begins its 2012 campaign hosting nonconference opponent Central Washington Saturday, Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. The team then quickly enters CCAA regular season play when San Francisco State and Cal Poly Pomona visit Triton Soccer Stadium Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9.
