LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 25 UC San Diego women's soccer team earned its third consecutive home win Sunday afternoon, downing league opponent Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 at Triton Soccer Field.
Junior forward Casey Parisi tallied the lone goal of the match at the 70:41 mark to push UCSD to the victory.
The Tritons improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CPP dropped to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Both squads started quick with close attempts coming from each side in the first two minutes. UC San Diego kept up its consistent pressure despite the absence of leading scorer Gabi Hernandez, who sat out due to injury.
"They were a very good team, I can see why they keep taking teams to overtime", said UCSD head coach Brian McManus. "We had to dig deep and just play very hard."
Goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky saw early action coming from the Broncos' strikers with two saves in the first 15 minutes. She would finish the afternoon with five. The majority of the first half continued to be played back and forth on the green with no major plays on goal.
UC San Diego entered the second half with three strikes on goal before Jessica Wi made a decent attempt that CPP defender Megan Baum deflected. Parisi was there to chip in the rebound for her first goal in a Triton uniform.
"Every game is a big game in the conference," said McManus. "Next week's game is at night, so we will rest this week, look forward to it and just go have some fun."
UCSD takes its perfect record to Cal State LA on Friday, Sept. 14 (7 p.m.) and Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday, Sept. 16 (2 p.m.), both CCAA match-ups.
