WHITTIER, Calif. - UCSD men's water polo team goes 2-0 on the afternoon in Whittier, defeating the hosting Poets 16-7 before nearly shutting out the Tigers of Occidental with a 27-1 final score.
UC San Diego moves back over .500 improving to 4-3 overall. Whittier drops to 2-6 overall while Occidental falls to 2-5.
13 of the Tritons traveling roster scored one or more goals with Josh Stiling finishing with 12 on the afternoon. Chase Cockerill scored his first goal of his college career against Whittier and added another four to total five for the day. Luke Syka close behind with four goals.
UC San Diego opened the game with a 4-0 run until the Poets where able to score their first goal of the game at the 3:04 mark of the first quarter.
The Tritons doubled the number of goals Whittier scored in both the second and third quarters. In the fourth, the Tritons tacked on another five goals to finish and make it impossible for Whittier to attempt a comeback with a 16-7 final score.
Cameron Ravanbach finished with five saves in the cage for UCSD.

After the first quarter of play, the Tritons took a 6-0 lead and never looked back from their. Stiling opened the 1st with three goals individually in the first five minutes of play.
The Tigers where unable to break through the goal line until mid-way through the second quarter with a goal by Stabenfeldt. That would serve as the only goal Occidental would get in the remainder of play.
Danny Lorch finished the game with five goals, a individual single-game career high.
