WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Izzy Pozurama
, a sophomore forward for UC San Diego, was named on Monday as the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 8-14.
A Lake Forest native out of El Toro High School, Pozurama is the first such honoree this season for the Tritons, currently ranked No. 25 in the NCAA Division II.
Pozurama scored three of UCSD's four goals in a pair of CCAA South Division victories over the weekend, as the Tritons improved to 10-1-2 overall and 8-1-2 in conference play while inching closer to an 11th South Division crown and 13th consecutive CCAA Championship berth.
Pozurama opened her account for the week with a 10th-minute near-post header that served as the lone goal of a 1-0 home win over Cal State L.A. on Friday night.
In Carson on Sunday afternoon, Pozurama provided a pair of strikes around a Cassie Callahan winner in a 3-1 decision over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Her opener went down as a third successive goal for her side, as she had also tallied UCSD's fourth in a 4-1 win at Humboldt State the previous Sunday.
Pozurama's four goals on the year have now come over the past three matches, all Triton wins. All four of her shots in this weekend's contests were on goal.
Chico State junior Akwafei Ajeakwa was the men's weekly honoree after producing two goals and an assist off the bench in two Wildcat victories.
UCSD next hosts No. 6 Cal State Stanislaus in a conference battle of nationally-ranked foes this Friday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Triton Soccer Field.
