LOS ANGELES - The 25th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team kept rolling Friday night with its third consecutive win, a 3-0 victory on the road at Cal State L.A. Scores were 25-13, 25-21 and 26-24 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match.

UCSD is now 14-6 overall and tied for second place in the CCAA at 9-3. CSULA is 9-10 and 7-5. The win gave the regular season series to the Tritons, who took a 3-1 win back on Sept. 15 in La Jolla. UC San Diego has won the last seven meetings between the two squads.

UCSD had no players with double-digit kill totals, but instead spread the wealth as six Tritons had four or more put-aways. The visitors enjoyed a sizable margin in attack percentage, out-hitting the Golden Eagles .189 (38-18-106) to .110 (33-21-109).

"This was a big win for us in a tough place to play," said UCSD head coach Ricci Luyties. "We didn't hit with great efficiency, but we were well balanced."

Danielle Dahle led the Tritons with eight kills and was followed closely by Sophie Rowe, who finished with seven. Kameron Cooper, Sara McCutchan and Sheridan Taylor each posted six, with Cooper also chipping in with five blocks. Setter Amber Hawthorne recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 29 assists and 10 digs. Brittany Lombardi led on the defensive side with 12 digs.

"Amber did a nice job distributing the ball," said Luyties.

For the Golden Eagles, reigning CCAA Player of the Week Marquis Mora had a match-high 12 kills and 14.0 points. She hit .409 (12-3-22) while also adding two digs and four blocks. Samantha Potter led all players with 13 digs

Both sides totaled 43 digs and nine blocks. UCSD had five service aces to Cal State L.A.'s two.

The Golden Eagles scored the first three points of the opening set, but the Tritons came right back by collecting the next three to tie it. CSULA would not trail until, at 10-9, a five-point run put UCSD up for good. Rowe and Taylor each had two kills during the spree with Rowe also picking up a point with an ace. The Tritons scored the final five points of the set, two of those coming off Dahle kills.

UCSD tallied its best attack of the night in the first set, hitting .312 (14-4-32). Conversely, Cal State L.A. swung at .000 (6-6-27), its worst of the three sets.

The Tritons led early in set number two. At 9-8, the Golden Eagles reeled off four straight points to take a 12-9 lead. At 17-14, UCSD would score six of the next seven points and re-take the lead for good. Block assists by Dahle and Cooper and a Dahle kill closed out the frame.

The third set had 11 tie scores and five lead changes. A couple of big runs brought CSULA to a 15-10 lead, forcing UCSD to take a timeout. The Tritons returned to win seven of the next eight points, taking a 17-16 lead. Play was back-and-forth until Dahle pounded a kill and Cooper ended the night with a service ace.

UCSD plays at Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday night. The match can be followed via live stats as well as a live video feed. The Toros were defeated in four sets by league-leading Cal State San Bernardino Friday night in Carson.
