SEASIDE, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf squad currently sits in fifth place after a round-plus of play at the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at Bayonet Golf Course.
The Tritons shot a 13-over par 301 in the opening round and are 9-over (for a total of 22-over) just past the midpoint of round two, which was suspended due to darkness.
Cal State Monterey Bay is in the lead at 4-over. Nova Southeastern is second at 9-over and St. Edward's follows in third at 18-over. Of 17 teams competing, Monterey Bay was the lone one to shoot under par in the first round, recording a 3-under 285.
Lewis Simon, through 11 holes in round two, is UCSD's top competitor, tied for ninth place at 2-over. He shot a 1-under par 71 in round one.
Freshman San Diego native Daniel Yang is tied for 18th at 4-over (3-over 75 in round one). Jay Lim is tied for 29th at 6-over (3-over 75 in round one), Jacob Williams is tied for 51st at 10-over (8-over 80 in round one) and freshman Clayton Yamaguchi is tied for 61st at plus-12 (8-over 80 in round one). Williams is through 13 holes in round two while Lim, Yamaguchi and Yang have each played 12 holes.
The individual leader is Drew Bell of St. Edward's, who is 1-under overall, shooting a 4-under par 68 in the first round. Bell, the only competitor currently under par, is through nine holes in the second round.
Action picks up Tuesday morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on the par-72, 6,887-yard course. Live scoring is available here.
