BACK ON TOP
After walking away with two key Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) wins last week, UCSD placed itself as the top contender in this week's conference standings with less than a month until the league's tournament. Only the top eight teams advance to the championship tourney the weekend of Nov. 16-18.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Brian Donohoe has been honored as the UCSDtritons.com Athlete of the Week. He helped lead the 11th-ranked Tritons to two key WWPA wins this past week. The senior utility player scored twice in a 10-9 victory over No. 13 Air Force at Canyonview. He then matched his single-game season-high by tossing in three goals in a 7-4 win over ninth-ranked rival LMU on the road. The Upland native also tallied a pair of goals in a loss at No. 2 UCLA, bringing his season total to 18.

KAP7/WWPA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Triton goalie Cameron Ravanbach finished last week with 24 saves, earning conference player of the week honors. Ravanbach grabbed eight saves and a steal in the 10-9 home victory over 13th-ranked Air Force on Oct. 18. He was at his best against ninth-ranked LMU, as he took down 19 saves on Oct. 20, accounting for a new single game career high. His saves total includes four blocked six-on-five power plays and one five-meter penalty shot on the road. The sophomore tallied up another seven saves against the well-balanced second-ranked Bruins of UCLA on Sunday.

AROUND THE WWPA
Monster match-ups within the WWPA continue to build as the annual conference championships are less than a month away. UC San Diego rose to No. 10 in the nation thanks to a pair of wins over fellow ranked WWPA foes LMU and Air Force. WWPA head-to-head match-ups continue this week, highlighted by a tilt between two of the hottest teams in the league, Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier, on Wednesday. The Sagehens took the win over the Poets, 9-7. Other key WWPA showdowns will take play in the Bay Area as LMU is at UC Davis on Friday before the Lions face Santa Clara on Saturday.

ABOUT CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS
Claremont currently sits at 8-14 overall on the year. The team's five-game winning streak recently came to a stop with a 15-11 loss to Cal Lutheran over the weekend in Claremont. The Stags traveled to Redlands on Wednesday looking to get back on track, and did so taking the high-scoring match, 17-14.

RECENT HISTORY AGAINST THE STAGS
UCSD has gone 6-0 vs. Claremont over the past four seasons. In 2008, the Tritons took a 24-8 win in the WWPA Championship tournament, setting a team high for goals in a single match.

ABOUT POMONA-PITZER
Pomona-Pitzer currently sits at 8-12 overall with the majority of it's games coming from tournament play. The Sagehens have played in the UCLA Invite, Inland Empire Tournament, NorCal Tournament and the Gary Troyer Tourney. The squad most recently took on Whittier on Wednesday. Both the Sagehens and Poets entered the game with a five-game winning streak. Pomona-Pitzer extended its streak with a 9-7 win.

RECENT HISTORY AGAINST THE SAGEHENS
UCSD looks to build on its 4-0 record against the Sagehens dating back to 2008. The Tritons have shown control of each match, posting a lead of at least three points and as many as 11.The teams last met in round robin play at Claremont on Sept. 10, with UCSD winning by a score of 15-4.
