HAYWARD, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's soccer team played to a second consecutive scoreless stalemate, this time with host Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Stadium on Friday night.

UCSD moved its record to 8-4-4 overall and 7-3-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal State East Bay is 4-7-5 overall and 2-6-5 in league play. The Tritons have now kept 11 shutouts over their 16 matches during the 2012 season, and continue to lead the nation in shutout percentage (0.69). They were a perfect 7-0 against the Pioneers all-time heading into the contest.

UCSD's postseason hopes had already been dashed before the teams kicked off in Hayward. Cal State L.A. managed a 2-2 draw at San Francisco State earlier in the day, prior to Cal State Dominguez Hills producing a 3-0 victory at Cal Poly Pomona, to clinch the top two positions in the CCAA South Division. Both sides hold tiebreakers over the Tritons. The top two in each division advance to next week's CCAA Championship in Carson.

During a scoreless first half, the Tritons held an 8-3 shot advantage. Three of those efforts for UCSD came from Andisheh Bagheri and two more from fellow senior midfielder Alex Portela, with one apiece on frame.

With the stalemate continuing through the second stanza, the teams headed into overtime. The lone shots by the Tritons during the extra soccer came from Cory Wolfrom and Portela, who each went wide on either side of the break between 10-minute sessions.

Josh Cohen, the reigning Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week, had five saves in goal for the Tritons, including a pair over the final two minutes of regulation. With his seventh individual shutout of the season, the junior improved his goals-against average to 0.42. Cohen had entered the weekend second in all of the NCAA Division II in the statistical category.

Senior Rene Martinez had four stops for the home side. Junior teammate Bryce Bookhamer took over after halftime and added one save of his own.

The Tritons outshot the Pioneers on the night, 14-10, with Bagheri bagging a game-high five.

UCSD concludes the 2012 season this Sunday, Oct. 28, at Cal State Monterey Bay. Kick-off in Seaside is slated for 11:30 a.m.
