SEASIDE, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's soccer team scored once in each half to stroll past Cal State Monterey Bay, 2-0, in its 2012 regular-season finale at Otter Sports Complex on Sunday.

UCSD improved to 13-2-2 overall and 11-2-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The South Division champion Tritons already knew their next opponent before Sunday's contest kicked off, as Sonoma State had edged No. 8 Cal State Stanislaus on the road, 2-1. UCSD will therefore take on second-seeded Cal State Stanislaus as the third seed at the CCAA Championship. Kickoff at Toro Stadium on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills is set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. Top seed Sonoma State will play fourth seed Cal Poly Pomona in the first semifinal at 11 a.m., with the winners meeting in the CCAA final on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 12:30 p.m.

The day after the CCAA crowns its champion, on Monday, Nov. 5, the 48 participants of the 2012 NCAA Division II Championship will be announced at 4:30 p.m. PT.

Cal State Monterey Bay completes the most successful season in program history at 8-9 overall and 5-9 in conference play. The Tritons remain a perfect 9-0 against the Otters all-time.

Each side had a shot on goal within the opening 10 minutes of the match, first from San Diego Andrea Davis of the Otters, and then from UCSD senior Gabi Hernandez.

The Tritons then got on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute. Cassie Callahan, who was teammates with Davis on the Coronado High School squad that won a CIF title in 2008, had her shot saved by senior Otter goalkeeper Diana Zambrano. Fellow sophomore Izzy Pozurama was once again in the right place at the right time to slot the rebound into the back of the net for her eighth on the year, now tying her with Callahan for the team lead.

The score extended Pozurama's incredible late-season run, with her eight goals now coming over the past seven matches, and all of them occurring in six Triton victories, with four of them game-winners.

UCSD effectively put the result out of doubt when the referee awarded a penalty kick late in the match, with senior tri-captain Ellen Wilson converting the opportunity at 86:04 for her second goal of the season.

Freshman Kelcie Brodsky came up with five saves for UCSD to earn her eighth individual shutout of the year, with Zambrano making three stops for CSUMB.
