WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Scott MacBride, a senior forward for UC San Diego, has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the final week of the 2012 regular season, Oct. 22-28.
The native of Atascadero (Atascadero HS) becomes the third Triton and second in a row to earn the league's weekly distinction. Fellow senior Evan Walker was named on Oct. 1, and junior goalkeeper Josh Cohen was last week's recipient. No other team on the men's side had more than one honoree this year.
MacBride earned the award on the basis of his three-goal hat trick to close out a 5-0 victory at Cal State Monterey Bay in Sunday's season finale for both squads. It was the first hat trick by a Triton in more than eight years, since Matthew Davey scored the first three goals, all in the first half, of a 6-1 win at Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 25, 2004. It was also the one and only hat trick by any player in the CCAA this year.
The senior-most player on the 2012 Triton roster, MacBride, a fifth-year member of the program, had begun the day with two career goals, and eclipsed that total in a span of just under 18 minutes at 17:53. He sandwiched a pair of goals courtesy of Walker assists in the 71st and 89th minutes, the latter on a rebound of a Walker shot, around a penalty kick in the 86th.
For the weekend, MacBride drew one start among two appearances, played 151 minutes out of 200, and took five shots, with four of them on target.
MacBride completed his college career as the Tritons' leading point-getter for 2012 with eight from his team-best four strikes.
The conference recognized a hat trick hero on the women's side as well, as two-time All-American Karenee Demery, a junior forward for Cal State Stanislaus, earned her third weekly distinction of the year following her third three-goal effort of 2012 and fourth of her career in a 4-3 overtime win at home over Chico State on Friday night.
