LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego men's soccer standout Andisheh Bagheri was named as a Capital One Academic All-District first-team selection for the NCAA Division II District 8 on Thursday afternoon.

The skilled midfielder earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Second Team and Academic All-District 8 recognition on the same day, picking up both honors for the first time. Bagheri was CCAA All-Academic a year ago. As one of 11 winners at the district level, he now moves on to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, presented by CoSIDA.

Bagheri is a Davis native out of Davis Senior High School who has played the past three seasons at UCSD. Though recognized as part of the 2012 senior class on Senior Day on Oct. 21 as a fourth-year student, he has one more season of athletic eligibility remaining. He started 10 of 16 games played in 2012 and provided one assist. For his Triton career to date, he has made 46 appearances, 23 of them starts, with two goals and five assists.

In the classroom, Bagheri maintains a 3.58 grade-point average in physiology and neuroscience.
